This association plays a vital role in curriculum development, the professional development of teachers, mentoring young marine teachers and the production of resources for their students. MTANSW also represents their views to the Board of Studies, the relevant education authorities, statutory bodies and the NSW Government.
The MTANSW aims to promote, develop and publicise all aspects of marine teaching in NSW. The association has fostered links and developed partnerships with other organisations, including Government departments and industry who are also interested in marine education.
This website intends to provide some tools and guidelines to assist teachers and stakeholders with resources and knowledge of behaviours in and around the water with safety. This allows teachers to educate students by displaying methodology first hand.
We are supporting our members in a variety of ways as we reinvent what we do and move to online teaching. All members have been emailed the following support:
1. Access to a pre-made Google Classroom with online lessons for 3 topics: Marine Mammals, Antarctica and Living together in the Sea. Each lesson has a marking rubric provided to monitor student progress. This is also supported with a Google Drive so that teachers may edit/add to the lessons if they wish before uploading to Google Classroom.
2. Booklets to support remote learning for students with limited internet access in the following topics: Boating, Marine Mammals, Antarctica, Dangerous Marine Creatures, Living together in the Sea, Core 1 and Core 2.
Members are also encouraged to head to the Classroom resources section of this website if they need any resources on other topics with over 1000 teaching resources, programs, assessment tasks and more available across all modules for both Stage 5 and Stage 6.
